The Deadly Chocolate Factory Explosion: Lawsuits Start To Pile Up
Pennsylvania is still reeling from a deadly chocolate factory explosion that occurred recently, and this disaster claimed the lives of seven people. A lone survivor was pulled out of the wreckage, and even nearby neighbors say that they were injured by the blast. The first of these neighbors has filed a personal injury lawsuit against the factory, and this could be the beginning of a string of similar lawsuits filed by nearby individuals. People are still trying to find out what caused the accident, but something clearly went very wrong.
Details from the Chocolate Factory Explosion
On March 24th of 2023, a chocolate factory in West Reading exploded, ending the lives of seven workers. A lone eighth worker survived, and she claims this was due to her falling into a vat of chocolate. The chocolate, she claims, shielded her from the blast while her co-workers burned.
When she was questioned about the explosion after being pulled from the rubble, the woman stated that she had smelled a suspicious odor about 30 minutes before the blast. Although they complained about the smell, no one was told to evacuate. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that a natural gas leak is the most likely cause. The lone survivor insists that the disaster could have been prevented. Her miraculous survival still left her with serious injuries – including two broken feet from her fall into the vat. She was on fire at the time, and the chocolate extinguished the flames.
Nearby Neighbor Sues the Factory
Other people seem to have been affected by the explosion as well. At least one individual living next door states that the explosion lifted her from her feet and threw her across the room. This resulted in serious and permanent injuries, the lawsuit argues. We know for a fact that several nearby buildings were damaged by the explosion, so these types of injuries are fully within the realms of possibility. This particular woman suffered injuries to her cervix, lumbar area, hip, and legs.
She also suffered property damage (including the destruction of her belongings) and emotional distress. Finally, she claims that this injury has prevented her from earning an income, and that she can no longer access her apartment due to the damage caused by the explosion. Crucially, she is accusing the company of negligence in failing to prevent the explosion. In addition, she states that she was never warned about the possibility of an explosion by the company. She is seeking $50,000 in damages, and she could very well get it.
