Yet Another Train Crash Claims Life Of A Baby In Pennsylvania

TrainTracks3

It seems that with each passing week, more trains crash across the United States – often causing critical injuries or fatalities in the process. Pennsylvania is certainly no stranger to this phenomenon, having witnessed a number of train crashes within the past few years alone. The most recent incident has claimed the life of a baby, and details surrounding this crash are still emerging. What is clear, however, is that train safety is at an all-time low not only in Pennsylvania, but across the entire nation.

15-Month-Old Baby Struck and Killed by Norfolk Southern Train

On December 7th, it was reported that a 15-month-old child had been struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train in Cumberland County. The details surrounding this incident are very unclear, but it seems as though the child somehow got onto the tracks before the train approached. Police immediately announced that they were investigating this incident, and criminal charges are certainly possible.

Norfolk Southern has seen its fair share of controversy in 2023. Earlier this year, a train derailed in East Palestine – not far from the Pennsylvania border. The train seemed to leak hazardous materials into the soil and air – immediately creating concerns for both Ohio and Pennsylvania residents. Ultimately, lawmakers from both states – and from both parties – voiced intense criticisms of the train company. They also criticized the federal government’s handling of the situation. To this day, people are still being relocated and provided with aid due to issues related to toxic exposure.

Train Crashes Continue Throughout the Nation

Train safety seems to be slipping into dangerous territory throughout the nation, with trains crashing and derailing on a seemingly weekly basis. In November of 2023, a train derailed in Atlanta, spilling diesel fuel and sparking flames throughout the crash zone. At around the same time, a passenger train in Chicago crashed, injuring 23 people – including three “critical injuries.” Also in November, a train derailed in Kentucky, spilling even more toxic chemicals into the air and causing local residents to flee for their lives.

One has to ask whether there is any accountability whatsoever among train operators, the Department of Transport, and other potentially negligent parties. Will these train crashes continue unabated? Can injury lawsuits help these companies understand that safety violations and reckless operations will result in serious financial consequences? As of right now, it seems as though trains will continue to threaten local residents and passengers in Pennsylvania with serious, potentially fatal hazards.
